Venue:

Club Burwood RSL
96 Shaftsbury Rd,
Burwood NSW 2134

Tournament:

Our first ever Burwood Chess Challenge, one of our major events for the year, was a huge success with 309 participants.  The venue was the spacious Club Burwood RSL and it comfortably seated the players, as well as many parents who came along to spectate and to support their children.  With two boards and clocks per table (instead of the usual three), and multiple ramps and mini-stairways for easy access around the playing area, the chidren were not crowded and had plenty of room.  Thanks very much to Club Burwood RSL for providing the excellent playing area - the Entertainment Dome!

As for the tournament itself - the top 20 ranged from JCL rating 706 down to 538, and there were no stand-out favourites to win this event.  However, although most of the top seeds had draws in Rounds 5 and 6, there was one player who steamrolled right over the top of the rest of the field and ended up undefeated on a perfect score of 8 points out of 8 - congratulations to the first place winner Michael Parsons!

Thank you to all of our arbiters who did a great job organising everything on the day and resolving any problems with a fair and unbiased attitude.  Also thanks to all the parents and players who made the trip to Burwood.  Of course, not everyone can finish with a prize, but we hope that you all had an enjoyable day competing in the tournament.
