Inner West Chess Challenge 16

Date:
Tuesday, 7th April 2015
Venue:

Sydney Latvian Society Club
32 Parnell Street, Strathfield

Tournament:

The biggest individual tournament of the year so far run by Sydney Academy of Chess has been completed.  There were 300 players who started the tournament, and 295 of those players stayed for the whole day and finished the 8th and final round.  For some of the younger and less experienced players, it was a great effort to last the full 8 rounds!

Please remember to submit your online entry early for our major tournaments such as this one.  Due to space restrictions, we do need to limit the entries to 300.

As usual, there were still several (4) players on maximum points after 6 rounds.  17-year-old top seed Paul Russell defeated Joshua Yeoh, while surprise packet Sterling Bayaca, who only achieved his first JCL rating (519) this year, beat one of the favourites Gordon Yang.

This set up what was virtually a "final" in the last round to decide first place between Paul and Sterling, which was won by Paul.  Congratulations Paul on another tournament victory and perfect score of 8/8 in what may be his last Sydney Academy of Chess event as a junior!

Full results are available below for download, along with the list of prizewinners.  Thank you once again to the Sydney Latvian Society Club in Strathfield for providing their venue, to all of our arbiters and canteen helpers, and to all players and parents who were patient enough to stay with their children and drive them to the venue and home safely.

We hope to see you at a tournament soon.  You can view all of our Upcoming Tournaments for the year.
